The expert positioning of feature awning and fixed windows has maximised light while protecting privacy in this sophisticated new home in Adelaide. Located just west of the CBD in the suburb of Mile End, the home features high wall-length windows on both levels which ensure natural light filters into every room.

Created by award-winning firm Exterior Dimensions, specialists in custom designing new homes and additions, this large family home utilised window and door framing solutions from Carinya’s residential products. Created by Alspec, and based on their experience in the commercial environment, Carinya products come in two ranges: Classic and Select. Both ranges are suitable for new low rise developments or renovations, with the Select range offering a premium product which includes additional styles and configurations.

To provide light without compromising privacy, a series of high awning and fixed Carinya Classic windows were used on both the lower and upper levels of the home. With their origins in the commercial environment, these windows benefit from extremely strong and durable sashes which can accommodate up to 18mm double glazed glass. They also have the advantage of an integrated 50mm wide sill, which easily accommodates standard or restricted-opening chain winder mechanisms.

Carinya Classic Sliding Doors were used on the ground level of the home to enable the easy integration of the living areas when required. The large panelled doors easy span the interface between the indoor kitchen/living/dining area and the outdoor alfresco dining space and operate effortlessly thanks to their integrated proprietary roller system from Alspec. The roller system comes in two types: the general system which can accommodate up to 80kg per panel or the heavy duty commercial system which is used with extra-large sashes or double glazing loads up to 160kg per panel.

Unlike the exposed tracks which are found on most residential sliding doors, Carinya sliding doors include threshold and jamb in-fills, end caps to conceal all cavities and internally concealed weather flaps. These features minimise opportunities for dirt and grit to collect and reduce air, water and pest infiltration, ensuring the optimum performance of the doors in all conditions.
